Open calls for proposals – Research in Further and Higher Education and Research

In the lead-up to the upcoming 12th International Further and Higher Education and Research Conference (IFHERC) taking place in Mexico City, 24-26 October 2023, Education International is commissioning three important pieces of research that will contribute to discussions at the conference:

  • The “Go Public! Fund Further and Higher Education and Research” background paper should provide a comprehensive analysis of the financing landscape of the further and higher education and research sector in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, in particular shedding light on trends concerning the share of public financing in the sector compared to other sources, and related impact for staff in the sector.  The deadline for applications is 15 July 2023.

  • The paper on “Educational technologies: Challenges to intellectual property ownership and academic freedom of higher education teachers and researchers” will analyse the possible threats to intellectual property ownership and academic freedom of further and higher education teachers and researchers due to the use of educational technology platforms and compliance to their terms and conditions. The deadline for applications is 23 June 2023.

  • The paper on “Unpacking the Open Educational Resources Recommendation: A tool to promote their application” will analyse challenges and opportunities arising from the implementation of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Educational Resources (OER), specifically in relation to academic work, and result in the development of a toolkit that can support unions when engaging in and contributing to the debates around OER and the implementation of the Recommendation in their context. The deadline for applications is 23 June 2023.

Every two years, the IFHERC organised by Education International, provides a space for member organisations in further and higher education and research to exchange experiences, analyse and discuss ways to address key issues and emerging trends impacting the workforce in the sector. It is an important appointment for our members in the sector and we are very pleased to count on your support to make this year’s edition a success.
